The Cultural Gift Scheme, introduced in 2013, is designed to encourage the lifetime giving of gift heritage assets for the public benefit.

The scheme offers incentives through reductions in the donor’s tax liability, but also carries some restrictions in the form of joint property, spend limits and valuation, amongst others.

Join us at Bonhams for a panel discussion and drinks where our speakers will explore the successes of scheme to date, for which we will be using case studies of gifts made under the scheme; discussing and evaluating the scheme’s efficacy, impact, challenges, and recommendations for improvement; then looking beyond the scheme to further potential incentives.

The panel will also discuss:

  • Available options in tax efficiency, legal issues, incentives for owners of pre-eminent objects and limitations
  • Case studies of gifts made under AIL and CGS
  • Practical considerations for donors of pre-eminent objects
  • Establishing more public support for the arts and developing UK cultural heritage
  • Is the Scheme providing adequate benefit to the donor and is the nation gaining from the Scheme
  • Next steps for the Cultural Gift Scheme
As an added bonus Bonhams will have a private showing for event attendees.
