Philanthropy firm expands UK operations

News (UK)

Geneva Global, an independent philanthropic consulting firm, has expanded its operations in the UK and Europe by appointing two philanthropic advisors, Peter Cafferkey and Kenny Washington.

Washington says: “We’re very excited that this partnership will bring a new way of thinking of international philanthropy to the UK and European markets.”

The company will provide philanthropists in the UK and Europe with consultancy in areas such as grant making, co-investment donor funds, research and reporting based in part on the company’s Social Impact Index measurement approach.

Doug Balfour, chief executive of Geneva Global says: “The origins of our company came from helping philanthropists approach their work with an investment mindset focused on accountability and transparency. That type of rigour and business orientation has been largely missing from the philanthropic landscape. We’re helping to shift that mindset as donors gravitate towards more innovative approaches that accelerate and expand their impact.”

Geneva Global specialises in international development. For example, it has worked with Legatum Foundation, an international private investment organisation that promotes sustainable development throughout the world. It helped Legatum to implement co-investment funds, such as the END Fund to bring together donors and to leverage giving in order to tackle the impact of tropical diseases in Africa.

Cafferkey, the new director of Geneva Global UK says: “As we’ve talked with donors, it’s very clear that they value the extensive network we have in developing countries and our ability to create customised programs tailored to what they want to achieve with their giving.”
