Winners of 2015 Beacon Awards Announced

News (UK)
The winners of the 2015 Beacon Awards have been announced, highlighting the work of 17 of the UK's most inspirational philanthropists.

The Beacon Awards were established in 2003 with the aim of promoting effective philanthropic giving through the creation of a nationally recognised awards scheme and a fellowship body of philanthropists. The fellowship of winners serve to highlight best practice and innovation in philanthropy. In addition to the biennial awards ceremony Beacon also runs a programme of roundtables and other smaller events that offer opportunities for philanthropists to connect with each other in order to share best practice and learn about the best philanthropic work in the UK today. Since 2010 the Beacon Awards have been managed by UK Community Foundations. The 2015 Beacon Awards are sponsored by J.P. Morgan Private Bank, the City of London Corporation’s charity, City Bridge Trust and Pears Foundation.

The Beacon Awards were established in 2003 with the aim of promoting effective philanthropic giving through the creation of a nationally recognised awards scheme and a fellowship body of philanthropists to highlight best practice and innovation in philanthropy. The biennial celebrate the extraordinary and transformational achievements of individuals and families who have, each in their own various ways, brought about lasting social change through their conviction, their determination and their generosity. The awards celebrate their exploits with the hope of inspiring others to want to follow suit. Collectively, this year's 17 Beacon Fellows have donated over £300million to philanthropic causes, across a mix of local and global organisations, large institutions and grassroots charities.

“The 2015 Beacon Award winners are exceptional people who have given their time, expertise and financial resources to help people and communities prosper in difficult times. Philanthropy plays a vital role in providing resources to many organisations that keep our communities strong and the Beacon Award winners are outstanding examples of individuals whose giving is having a lasting impact on people’s lives. I know that the Beacon Award winners will inspire others to give and I look forward to sharing the lessons that can be learned from the inspirational example they set.” Gay Huey Evans, Chair, Beacon Awards
