News

A £150,000 fund for charities and community groups is being launched by Yorkshire Bank to mark 150 years of working with local communities in the North of England and the Midlands.

The fund will be used to make awards to projects in four categories – environment, volunteering, education and regeneration. The winning entry in each category will receive the £10,000 ‘Colonel Akroyd Community Award’, named after the bank’s founder. Four runners-up will receive £5,000.

In addition to the main category awards, a grand prize of £10,000 will be awarded for the best overall entry. There will also be a further 20 awards of £1,000 to projects that are considered ‘highly commendable’.

Dean Cutbill, director for Yorkshire Bank, said, “As an organisation founded on community principles, Yorkshire Bank is proud to mark 150 years of continued support with these awards.”

The deadline for applications is 16 August 2009.

Shortlisted charities and groups will be invited to an awards ceremony in November where the winners will be announced.

Full details of the awards, including an application form, can be found on the Yorkshire Bank website or by writing to YCBF 150th Community Awards, 3rd floor, 20 Merrion Way, Leeds, LS2 8NZ.
