The U.S Trust Study of the Philanthropic Conversation: Understanding advisor approaches and client expectations

Report
October 2013
U.S Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth and the Philanthropic Initiative (TPI)

A new study from the USA which reveals disconnects in the philanthropic conversation between HNW individuals and professional advisors which centre on the initiation and substance of the philanthropic conversations.  For example, many advisors underestimate their clients’ desire to discuss their charitable goals and passions, and overestimate the importance of tax reliefs as a motivation for giving.  The study was conducted by U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management and The Philanthropic Initiative (TPI), conducted in August 2013 with more than 300 advisors and a random sample of 120 HNW individuals with $3 million or more in investable assets who are actively engaged in charitable giving.
