All over the globe philanthropists and philanthropic families are looking at making a positive impact.Many of them are now turning to scale their projects by creating deeper partnership with government, other NGOs and donors, as well as the private sector.
 
Taking a more ambitious approach to their philanthropy, families will rely on their advisers to have knowledge and experience in guiding them, not just through the structuring, but also the strategic decision making. At this event experts and thought leaders in this area will share their experiences in guiding families on their philanthropic journey.

Speakers Bios

Sheryl Fofaria
Sheryl leads J.P. Morgan’s award-winning Philanthropy Centre in Europe, the Middle East & Africa. She advises individuals and families on how to meet their philanthropic goals by providing support on mission, focus, strategy and governance as well as sharing best practices from across the field. She also facilitates connections with likeminded philanthropists, and provides unique opportunities for clients to learn from thought leaders in the social and environmental issues they are passionate about.
Sheryl read Economics & Management at Cambridge University and completed her postgraduate studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Prior to joining J.P. Morgan, she advised institutional asset managers and hedge funds on their cross-asset, macroeconomic strategy and equity allocations at UBS Investment Bank in London and Hong Kong.
She then shifted career by pursuing a Masters degree in International Development and joining a UK social enterprise, Sponsors for Educational Opportunity. Here she ran a flagship programme providing educational support and career coaching to talented, young people from underserved backgrounds.
Sheryl is an advocate and champion for innovative and entrepreneurial approaches to global development, having grown up in Kenya as part of an Indian entrepreneurial family, and is frequently featured in the media (Financial Times, Sunday Times, Professional Wealth Management, amongst others) for her views on philanthropy.

David Forbes-Nixon
David is the co-founder and Chief Executive of Alcentra. David is a member of Alcentra’s European Investment Committees and acts as Chair and Senior Portfolio Manager of the Special Situations business.
Prior to founding Alcentra, David worked at Barclays Capital from 1995 to 2003 where he was Managing Director, Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Barclays Capital Asset Management, a wholly owned subsidiary of Barclays Group Plc and the predecessor firm of Alcentra. Whilst he was at Barclays he set up the par loan trading business and served as a Director of the Loan Market Association (LMA) and chaired the LMA Valuation Committee. David worked at Bankers Trust from 1992 to 1995 where he was a Vice President and head of European leveraged loan distribution and prior to that worked at Chemical Bank from 1987 to 1992 in New York and London in the structured finance and loan syndication departments.
David is Founder and Chairman of the DFN Charitable Foundation. David graduated from Birmingham University with a BSc (Hons) in Chemical Engineering.

Nicholas Harries
Nicholas started his career as a barrister, practising from 10 Old Square, Lincoln’s Inn (a leading set of traditional Chancery chambers). He subsequently joined Macfarlanes in 2003. He continues to hold Higher Courts rights of audience. Nicholas’ current practice allows him to draw on both the detailed trust law and drafting experience gained at the bar and the technical tax experience gained later in his career. It embraces the full range of tax, estate and succession planning advice for individuals resident in the UK (UK and non-UK domiciliaries). It also includes advice for internationally-based individuals and their families, even where there is no significant connection with the UK.
He often works closely with our private client disputes team (drawing on his contentious experience at the Bar) and with our tax team (to deliver co-ordinated advice where both personal and business tax issues are at stake).
Nicholas also heads up our charity and probate practices. He has many years' experience advising on all probate related matters.

Lorraine Grace
Lorraine is the Founder of the My World Project charity, which has connected and taught peaceful conflict resolution techniques and photography skills to children in the Middle East, Cambodia, Costa Rica, Switzerland, and the USA. Lorraine is the Head of Socially Responsible Investment Research at Close Brothers Asset Management in London. Lorraine manages the integration of socially responsible investing across the firm. She was previously an Equity Analyst covering the consumer discretionary and mining sectors.
Lorraine is the UK Ambassador for NEXUS, a global next generation network focused on bridging the worlds of wealth and social impact. She is a member of YPO YNG, The ImPact's Next Gen Leadership Council, Horizons Advisory Board, and a board member of the Middle East Children's Institute (MECI).

Alexander Hoare
Alexander is the first of the eleventh generation of C. Hoare & Co. partners. A graduate of the University of Edinburgh (B. Com (Hons) Marketing), he joined the bank in 1987 from PA Consulting
Group where he worked as a marketing consultant. From 2001 to 2009 he was Chief Executive Officer of C. Hoare & Co.
Alexander is a leader in the field of social and impact investing and a founder partner of Snowball LLP. He serves as president of the Groupement Européen de Banques; as a patron of Royal Trinity Hospice; and as chairman of the trustees of Intermission Youth Theatre.
