Join our CEO John Pepin as he chats with our member Mary Rose Gunn, Founder and Chief Executive of The Fore, James Banks, CEO of London Funders; our member Nancy Bikson, Managing Director of Chapel & York; our member Lisa Ashford, Director and CEO of Ethex and Dr Maximilian Martin, Global Head of Philanthropy, Lombard Odier about the challenges and opportunities that the philanthropic sector is going to face during the next stage of recovery, and what role could play in helping our society.

After three months of lockdown, many countries are now slowly trying to come back to their version of normality and are experimenting with the second phase. It seems hard to define what is needed for this phase and what the long-term effect will be. Are we ready to address the several economic and societal issues that this crisis has produced?

This stage is an important moment as far as philanthropy and social impact investing is concerned. We are already seeing the force for good that philanthropy can be in uncertain times, enabling swift pivots in a charity’s direction in response, and enabling new initiatives to flourish but can it alone be the answer to the recovery? Or is now the time to be bold - does the discussion need to focus more on the role of the wealthy in the recovery as a whole not just with their philanthropy but including socially conscious investing and businesses giving back to their communities?
