JustGiving reaches £1bn mark

News (UK)

Twenty million donors have sponsored friends and family through the website JustGiving.com over the last ten years, raising over £1bn for more than 13,000 charities.

Meanwhile, VirginMoneyGiving.com announced that it has reached the £100m mark since its launch in 2009. It was launched to coincide with becoming the official fundraising website for the London Marathon. Since then, VirginMoneyGiving.com has seen Gift Aid applied to 85.5% of donations made through the site.

VirginMoneyGiving.com chair Sir Tom Shebbeare says: “Helping charities to raise £100m is a great achievement, but more important is the way we have helped to increase online giving overall.”

This year JustGiving.com also established its In Memory tool enabling people to set up tribute pages in memory of a loved one. Two years ago it set up a company fundraising tool, allowing companies to manage fundraising efforts online. Over 150 companies have raised over £73m through the site. Last year it launched JustTextGiving, which allows sponsors to text their donations.
