New Philanthropy Capital: Intervening early for the Big Society
26th July, 8am to 10:30am
London

New Philanthropy Capital's breakfast seminar explores the issue of scaling up charitable approaches to early intervention. Speakers at the event include:

  • Martin Brookes, chief executive of New Philanthropy Capital, who will introduce the event and talk about the importance of scaling up evidence-based early interventions
  • Sue Gwaspari, director of Part-time Volunteering at Community Service Volunteers (CSV), an organisation that runs CSV’s Volunteers in Child Protection programme, the overall winner of the Charity Awards 2010.
Gracia McGrath OBE, chief executive of Chance UK, an early intervention charity working with primary school children with behavioural difficulties who are assessed as being at risk of criminal, offending and anti-social behaviour.
  • Catherine Roche, chief operating officer from The Place2Be, a school-based counselling service offering accessible, non-stigmatising, on-site mental health support for vulnerable children and their families.
The event runs from 8:30am to 10:15am, with networking over coffee and pastries before and afterwards.

EAPG roundtable - Gift Aid: Inform or Reform?
Wednesday 14th July, 5pm for 5.30 to 7.00pm
Cass Business School
London

Discussion Panel: Clive Cutbill, Consultant Withers LLP, and Panel Chair; Helen Donoghue, Director, Charity Tax Group; Kevin Russell, Technical Director, Stewardship; Tom McKenzie, Centre for Charitable Giving & Philanthropy, Cass Business School; Sarah Smith, University of Bristol. There is no doubt that for UK taxpayers to make income tax-effective cash gifts to charities the approach is complex and reliant not only on charities understanding the system but also taxpayers understanding how it works and what they need to do in order to claim relief.  Redirection and composite rates have been proposed as a means of reform. But surely it’s a matter of informing rather than reforming? Isn’t it?For UK taxpayers to make income tax-effective cash gifts to charities the system is over-complicated and confusing. This has led to the misunderstanding that it doesn’t provide full tax relief to donors in the same way that other systems do, such as that in the USA. How does the current system work across the cash donor spectrum – small to large? To attend email Sue Summers at sue@eapg.org.uk.Non-members are welcome to attend one roundtable in order to assess the value of  events first-hand. ACF annual conference
