Pilotlight helps charities increase turnover

Charities supported by venture philanthropy charity Pilotlight show an average growth in turnover of 54% two years after the end of their work with Pilotlight.

In its 2008 impact evaluation report Pilotlight found that the charities it mentors see an average annual growth in turnover of 36% following its work with them, compared to 5.7% for the UK charity sector as a whole.

Other highlights include that, of those partner charities which measure the change in people’s lives, 60% see it as increasing through working with Pilotlight. Meanwhile, 95% of partner charities have gained skills and tools that help them manage themselves better.

Pilotlight Chief Executive Fiona Halton commented, “The ultimate goal has to be to measure how much change partner charities bring about in their communities. And we can only do that if charities have got the resources to measure that change.”

Founded in 1996, Pilotlight offers free business advice to charities to help them become more sustainable, by putting together teams of senior business executives to work with them on issues such as business planning, fundraising and governance.  Members, or ‘Pilotlighters’, can join as individuals or as part of a corporate team.
