Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe stunned staff at a charity shop in Berkshire by handing over a cash donation of £1,000 on 22nd July.

Crowe made the donation after seeing a campaign poster in the window of the Cancer Research UK shop,  featuring cancer patients talking about their experience of the disease.

The Gladiator star is currently in the UK to film a new version of Robin Hood. One of the volunteers in the shop said they had known he was filming in the area but "couldn’t believe it’"when he came in and handed over the money.

“We were all a bit star-struck, but it was lovely to meet him and he stopped and had a bit of a chat with us,” the volunteer said.

The poster campaign mirrors Cancer Research UK’s current TV advert that aims to demonstrate the impact that cancer research is having on thousands of people’s lives.
