Growing philanthropy advice: Why does its potential in the UK remain unfulfilled?

Boncerto are delighted to share a new White Paper created by our Associate, Joanna Walker. She took some time to explore some of the issues around philanthropy advice, and why the sector in the UK has failed to meet growing demand and potential.

I have been inspired to write this White Paper on my return to the world of philanthropy and charities after a career break to raise my family. Expecting the world to have moved on in my absence, I am surprised to see the philanthropy advice sector has largely remained static over the last few years - when by now it should have fulfilled its enormous potential.

The picture remains as it was when I was working with philanthropists a few years ago: a fragmented UK marketplace, in a world whose parameters were set in the wake of the global banking crisis of 2008. It has failed to keep pace with the dynamic individuals and organisations it aims to serve.

By no means exhaustive and not intended to reach definite conclusions,  this paper reflects my personal views as a 'returning insider' to the sector.

What I hope it does achieve is to analyse the possible causes, start a conversation and offer specific actions to help make the UK's social impact advisory market as effective and impactful as it can be.
