Zoltan J Acs, Why Philanthropy Matters: how the wealthy give, and what it means for our economic well-beingThis book provides a different perspective on the development of capitalism by highlighting philanthropy’s critical links to economic progress, heath and future from a USA perspective.  Acs argues that philanthropy achieves three critical outcomes:

He believes philanthropy complements government in creating public goods and by focussing on education, science and medicine and philanthropy has had a positive effect on economic growth and productivity.  Acs argues that philanthropy has given an edge to capitalism by promoting vital forces necessary for technological innovation, economic equality and economic security.
