Tearfund
Organisation
Tearfund is a Christian relief and development agency working in some of the most vulnerable and fragile areas of the world, where people’s lives are frequently at risk from disease, climate change and natural disaster, and economic, social and political instabilities.
We are committed to committed to eradicating poverty. We do this by:
● Responding to disasters - ensuring communities affected by disasters receive life-saving assistance, recover quickly and are better equipped to face and respond to future hazards.
● Developing communities - working sustainably and holistically with local churches and communities to reduce poverty and build resilience.
● Envisioning churches - enabling the global church to address poverty and injustice.
● Changing policies - changing unjust policies and practices of the powerful to deliver justice for poor communities.
Working towards these outcomes, we focus on four thematic areas: water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), livelihoods, food security, resilience. Emerging areas of work for Tearfund are sexual and gender based violence, and conflict resolution and peacebuilding.
We deliver our work through local partners, operational programmes, alliances such as the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and Inspired Individuals (a programme to identify, support and resource social entrepreneurs with potential to transform the lives of millions living in poverty).
Tearfund is committed to reaching the most vulnerable and marginalised, selected on the basis of need alone, regardless of their race, religion or nationality.
